Crafted in Montalcino by Azienda Agricola Verbena, La Scommessa (Italian for The Bet) reflects the estate’s signature approach to elegance, balance, and regional character. Made entirely from Sangiovese grown on the estate’s younger vines, this wine offers a vibrant and approachable expression of Tuscany while retaining the grace and precision that define Verbena’s style.

In the glass, La Scommessa shows a deep ruby hue with youthful brightness. The nose opens with fresh red cherries, violets, and a touch of wild herbs. Subtle notes of cedar and baking spice emerge with air, adding complexity without overwhelming the fruit. On the palate, it is silky and energetic, with fine-grained tannins and a streak of acidity that keeps it lifted. Flavours of juicy plum, raspberry, and soft earthy tones lead into a clean, elegant finish.

The 2022 vintage offers freshness and immediacy, making this a wine that can be enjoyed now, yet with enough structure to improve over the next few years. Ideal with grilled meats, pasta al ragù, or aged cheeses. No decanting needed, though a brief airing enhances the wine’s aromatic range.
